FRSC Deploys 450 Personnel to Boost Road Safety During Sallah Across Kwara
In a bid to ensure smooth vehicular movement and reduce accidents during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kwara State has deployed no fewer than 450 personnel, including special marshals and first responders, to key locations across the state.
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Mufutau A. Irekeola, approved the deployment of 16 patrol vehicles, 2 power bikes, 4 ambulances, 4 light private tow trucks, and a 70-tonne tow truck. The operation, which commenced on June 5, will run until June 11, 2025.
According to the Public Education Officer of the command, Basambo Olayinka Busari, the personnel have been strategically stationed across major highways, intercity routes, and within Ilorin township to manage the anticipated increase in traffic during the festive period.
Speaking on the initiative, Commander Irekeola urged motorists to exhibit discipline and comply with traffic regulations to ensure a hitch-free celebration. “We appeal to all road users to avoid dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, use of phones while driving, driving with worn-out tyres, and route violations,” he said.
He further warned against operating mechanically unfit or rickety vehicles, overloading, and lane indiscipline, which are common causes of crashes during festive seasons.
In addition to the patrol deployment, the command has intensified public awareness campaigns across motor parks, markets, churches, and mosques. These campaigns, including early morning sensitisation and mega rallies, aim to educate road users on safety practices.
While wishing residents of the state a peaceful Eid-el-Kabir, the sector commander called on all drivers to exercise patience and caution on the roads. “Drive safely and make sure you arrive at your destination alive. Let this celebration be joyful and free of road tragedies,” he added.
