Federal Fire Service moves to promote fire prevention, improve emergency response preparedness

The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Bauchi State Command, has announced plans to organise a five-day Nationwide Fire Safety Week campaign from November 2 to 6, 2026, to promote fire prevention and improve emergency response preparedness across the state.

This is contained in a statement by DSF Umar Lawal, the command’s Public Relations Officer in Bauchi on Saturday.

According to him, the campaign would target government establishments, commercial institutions, schools, markets and residential communities.

The initiative, he said, is aimed at raising public awareness of fire hazards, promoting safety practices and protecting lives and property through public sensitisation and practical demonstrations.

“The programme will commence on Monday, November 2, with a flag-off and opening ceremony, the command will conduct a corporate and transport logistics safety sensitisation programme at Yankari Express Cooperation the next day.

“The session, to be facilitated by ASFI Kabiru Sani Gital, will focus on fire risk prevention, emergency response procedures and workplace safety strategies, particularly for transport operators.

“On Wednesday, we will feature fire safety advocacy programmes for students and young people at two schools.

“The first session will be held at Sunshine International School, Bauchi, while the second will take place at Government Comprehensive Day Secondary School, Sa’adu Zungur.

“The school-based activities will include emergency evacuation drills, basic hazard identification and safety education to equip students with the knowledge required to respond appropriately to fire emergencies,” he said.

He explained that the command would take its sensitisation campaign to Yankatako Mudalawal Market, Bauchi, where traders would be educated on commercial fire hazards, safe electrical practices and basic firefighting techniques on Thursday.

Lawal added that the campaign would focus on residential fire prevention, domestic gas safety and an interactive question-and-answer session with residents on Friday

The spokesman urged members of the public, community leaders, school authorities and market associations to participate actively in the programme, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in preventing fire outbreaks.

He also encouraged residents to embrace fire safety measures and remain vigilant in their homes, workplaces and public spaces.
