UNILORIN VC Mourns, Consoles LEADERSHIP Editor Olesin Over Mother’s Death

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has expressed profound sadness over the death of Alhaja Munirat Hanafi Imam Olesin, mother of the North Central Regional Editor of LEADERSHIP Newspaper, Alhaji Abdullahi Olesin.

Alhaja Olesin, a prominent community leader and matriarch of the Olesin family in Ilorin, died on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at the age of 87.

In a condolence message issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, Prof. Egbewole said the news of the death was received with deep sadness by the management, staff and students of the institution.

The Vice Chancellor described the deceased as an elder whose life was marked by experience, wisdom and valuable contributions to her family and community.

He particularly commiserated with Alhaji Abdullahi Olesin, his siblings and other members of the family, noting that the death of a beloved elder is always painful, especially at a time when society continues to require the wisdom, experience and prayers of its elders for national development and renewal.

Prof. Egbewole, who is also Chairman of the Consortium of Kwara State-based Universities (KU8+), urged the bereaved family to take solace in the fact that their matriarch lived to an advanced age and left behind enduring legacies that would continue to speak for her.

He prayed Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, accept her good deeds and grant her Al-Jannatul Firdaus.

The Vice Chancellor also prayed Allah to grant the Olesin family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
