Police Raid Mowe Baby Factory, Rescue Pregnant Women, Four Children; Newborn Missing
Police in Ogun State have uncovered an alleged baby factory in the Mowe area of the state, rescuing two pregnant women and four children while arresting six suspects linked to the operation.
The facility, located on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, a suburb of Mowe, was raided by police operatives following sustained intelligence on suspected human trafficking and illegal adoption activities.
The Ogun State Police Command disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi.
According to him, the operation was carried out at about 8:00 a.m. on August 24, 2026, as part of the command’s intelligence-led efforts to tackle human trafficking and child exploitation.
Opeyemi said the two pregnant women rescued from the facility were identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who was seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who was eight months pregnant.
Four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were also recovered during the operation.
The police spokesman said further investigations led operatives to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another victim, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, had reportedly given birth to a baby boy on August 20.
“While the mother was met receiving medical treatment, the whereabouts of the newborn child could not be accounted for, prompting the arrest of the attending nurse in locating the infant,” the statement said.
The suspects arrested were identified as Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.
The command said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for a comprehensive investigation.
It said the investigation would focus on determining the full extent of the alleged syndicate’s activities, locating the missing newborn and bringing anyone found culpable to justice.
The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, as commending the Mowe Division operatives for their prompt response and operational effectiveness.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling networks involved in human trafficking, child trading and other forms of violent crime across the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with timely and credible information about suspicious activities.
“The public will be kept informed as further developments unfold,” the command said.
