ADC should apologise to the Judiciary over irresponsible response to court judgement – Group

The Democratic Front (TDF) has urged the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to apologise to the Judiciary over the comments it made in response to the recent judgement by the Federal High Court in Abuja deregistering the party and four others.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, TDF
argued that the Appeal Court ruling, which favoured the opposition, proved that blanket allegations of bias against the Judiciary were misplaced.
It said: “As a political institution that was registered under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), the ADC ought to have been exemplary in its respect for the tenets of democracy and the rule of law, as against the derogatory use of vulgar and intemperate utterances based on unfounded accusations against the Judiciary.
“In its reckless disregard for the rule of law and the temple of Justice, the ADC described Justice Peter Lifu’s judgement as an attack on democracy and a panacea for chaos and anarchy, despite the window provided by the constitution for an appeal.
“The Order by the Court of Appeal to stay execution of Justice Peter Lifu’s judgement has now completely exposed the lies and propaganda of the ADC leadership.
The attempt to blackmail President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the judgment of the Federal High Court has confirmed that the party and its leaders are only desperate to gain power at all costs, regardless of whether due constitutional processes were followed or not.
“We believe that the opposition party owes the Judiciary an apology about its irresponsible conduct over the Federal High Court Judgement that ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the party.
“A political party that seeks to preside over the affairs of Nigeria should be seen to be above board in all ramifications. The irresponsible conduct displayed by the ADC in the aftermath of the court judgment shows an inherent lack of regard for constituted authority and constitutionality.
“Therefore, the least responsible gesture that is expected of the ADC and its leaders is to tender an unreserved apology to the Judiciary.”
It added that ADC and its leaders need to stop denigrating federal institutions in their quest for power.
