Ten governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State have written to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing concern over the state of the party and seeking his intervention to prevent what they described as a looming crisis ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a joint letter dated June 19, 2026, the aspirants pledged their loyalty to President Tinubu and reaffirmed their support for his re-election bid in 2027, while warning that the current situation within the party in Kwara could jeopardise the APC’s electoral fortunes in the state.

The aspirants accused Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of failing to provide the inclusive leadership needed to sustain the political coalition that brought the APC to power in the state through the 2019 “O to ge” movement.

The signatories to the letter are Dr. Oluwatoyin Tajudeen Alabi, Capt. Ahmad Mahmud, Alhaji Tajudeen Audu, Dr. Azeez Salako Muideen Olaniyi, Ambassador Yahaya Seriki Gambari, Senator Saliu Mustapha, Dr. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, Hon. Omar Mohammed Bio, Barrister Dele Belgore (SAN), and Senator Yahaya Oloriegbe.

The aspirants said they remained committed to Tinubu’s administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as “the surest path to unlocking Nigeria’s vast potential.”

They, however, raised concerns over what they described as worsening internal divisions within the APC in Kwara State.

According to them, the victory of the APC in 2019 was a product of a broad coalition of stakeholders, political groups and progressive forces united under the Otoge movement, rather than the effort of any single individual.

“Regrettably, the gains of that collective sacrifice have not been consolidated in a manner that reflects the magnitude of the effort and expectations of our people,” the letter stated.

The aspirants alleged that several stakeholders who contributed to the emergence of the APC government in the state had been alienated and excluded from government and party affairs.

They argued that the development had weakened the party’s political structure and created room for the resurgence of opposition forces in the state, which could create problem for the party in the stste.

The group further claimed that Governor AbdulRazaq had lost the political influence necessary to determine the future of the APC in the state, alleging that candidates associated with his endorsement could face challenges during the 2027 elections.

The aspirants also called the President’s attention to what they described as “the announcement of results for primaries that did not hold,” urging him to critically examine developments within the state chapter of the party.

They appealed to President Tinubu to review the records, loyalty, capacity and acceptability of the governorship aspirants with a view to supporting a consensus candidate capable of uniting the party.

According to them, they are willing to collapse their individual political structures and support any candidate acceptable to the President and the party leadership.

“Should Your Excellency adopt such a course, we give our solemn assurance that we will rally behind any consensus candidate acceptable to Your Excellency and the party,” the letter stated.

The aspirants also called for broad consultations in the selection of candidates for National and State Assembly positions to reflect the political realities and tendencies within the state.

They warned that failure to address the issues could adversely affect the APC’s chances in the 2027 elections, including the presidential election.

“If the present trajectory is allowed to continue, the electoral prospects of the APC in Kwara State in all elections, including the presidential election, will be severely imperilled,” they said.

The group further warned that many stakeholders might be compelled to seek alternative political platforms if the situation remained unresolved.

They appealed to President Tinubu to intervene urgently to preserve the unity of the party and ensure its electoral success in the state.

The development is the latest indication of growing tensions within the Kwara APC as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum.
