Kwara PDP Announces Engr Bolakale Kawu as Consensus Candidate for 2027 Governorship Poll

 

Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has announced Engr. Kale Kawu as the consensus governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State.

Saraki disclosed that the decision followed what he described as “extensive consultations” with party stakeholders and leading governorship aspirants within the party.

According to him, the emergence of Kawu as consensus candidate reflects the unity and shared commitment of party members towards reclaiming power in the state.

“I am pleased to announce that, after extensive consultations with stakeholders of the Kwara PDP and our leading gubernatorial aspirants, we have arrived at a consensus candidate to fly the flag of our great party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election,” Saraki stated.

He added, “That candidate is Engr. Kale Kawu.”

The former governor of Kwara State also commended other aspirants who stepped down for the consensus arrangement, describing their action as a demonstration of loyalty and sacrifice for the overall interest of the party.

“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the other aspirants who, in the supreme interest of our party and state, have graciously stepped down to support this consensus. It is this spirit of unity and selflessness that will carry us to victory,” he said.

Saraki further urged party members, delegates and supporters to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct during the party’s gubernatorial primaries scheduled for tomorrow.

“I wish all our members, delegates, and teeming supporters a successful, peaceful, and orderly outing at tomorrow’s gubernatorial primaries,” he added.

Meanwhile, the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State Chairman, Hon. Isa Adamu Bawa, has also officially announced Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu as the party’s consensus governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

The decision was reached on Friday, May 23, 2026, following extensive consultations with key stakeholders, party elders, and leading gubernatorial aspirants within the Kwara PDP family.

The announcement was made during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting attended by party leaders and representatives from across the state, reaffirming the PDP’s commitment to unity, internal democracy, peace, and collective progress.

Speaking on behalf of the party leader, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, Alhaji Kawu Baraje delivered a goodwill message stressing that the PDP remains one united family that must continue to work together in peace and harmony. He conveyed Dr. Saraki’s message of unity, understanding, and collective responsibility to all stakeholders present.

Also speaking, Mallam Omar Bolaji Gambari, who represented other aspirants, disclosed that it was a collective decision by himself, Professor Ali Ahmad, Barr. Sheni Ibiwoye (SAN), and Alhaji Ladi Hassan to present Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu as their preferred candidate after wide consultations and careful consideration in the overall interest of the party and Kwara State.

Similarly, Hon. Mashood Mustapha reiterated that the PDP remains one united family, stressing the need for members to continue working together harmoniously to ensure victory at the polls and deliver purposeful governance to the people of Kwara State.

The State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Isa Adamu Bawa, also read out letters from other aspirants affirming their support for the emergence of Engr. Kawu as the consensus candidate.
