Kwara Fire Service Partners Al-Hikmah University on Fire Disaster, Flood Preparedness

 

The Kwara State Fire Service has intensified efforts to promote safety awareness and disaster preparedness as it trained management and staff of Al-Hikmah University on fire prevention and flood safety measures.

The workshop, held on Wednesday at the university campus, formed part of the Fire Service’s ongoing public sensitisation campaign aimed at reducing fire outbreaks and flood-related incidents across the state.

Leading the training session, the Officer in Charge of Administration, Adewale Sikiru, alongside other officers of the Service, educated participants on fire prevention strategies, emergency response procedures, and flood safety practices.

Speaking during the programme, the Vice Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Prof. Lateef Oladimeji, commended the Kwara State Fire Service for what he described as its gallant efforts in protecting lives and property across the state.

He said the university values the importance of safety education, especially within academic environments where large numbers of students and staff interact daily.

“We appreciate the proactive approach of the Kwara State Fire Service in creating awareness on fire prevention and disaster management. This kind of engagement is necessary for institutions and communities,” the Vice Chancellor said.

During the workshop, officers of the Fire Service assessed the institution’s existing safety measures and made recommendations on how to improve fire prevention facilities and emergency preparedness on campus.

Responding, Prof. Oladimeji assured the team that the university management would implement necessary improvements to strengthen safety standards within the institution.

Participants at the workshop actively engaged the facilitators with questions bordering on fire prevention, emergency evacuation, and flood response techniques, reflecting growing interest in disaster preparedness.

The practical session was coordinated by the Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, who demonstrated the proper use of firefighting techniques and emergency response procedures.

Attendees also participated in hands-on exercises designed to improve their understanding of fire safety management.

At the end of the programme, the Vice Chancellor offered prayers for the protection and success of Fire Service personnel and reaffirmed the institution’s readiness to sustain collaboration with the agency.

He further disclosed that the Kwara State Fire Service would continue to participate in the university’s orientation programme for newly admitted students as part of efforts to boost safety consciousness and reduce fire incidents in hostels, homes, and surrounding communities.

The Kwara State Fire Service reiterated its commitment to public enlightenment, disaster preparedness, and the protection of lives and property across the state.
