Omupo People Laud Gov AbdulRazaq, Seek Upgrade of Olomu to First-Class Status

The Omupo Descendants Union has commended the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for elevating several traditional stools in the state, while appealing for the upgrade of the Olomu of Omupo to a First-Class status.
The Union made this known in a statement signed by its National President, Dr. Monisoye Sola Afolabi, on April 12, 2026, in Omupo, Kwara State and made available to newsmen.
According to the statement, the Union praised the Governor for recognising the critical role of traditional rulers in strengthening governance and for taking bold steps to empower the traditional institution in the state.
The statement noted that the stool of Olomu of Omupo is eminently qualified for elevation, citing its historical significance, administrative relevance, and longstanding contribution to governance in the area.
It further stated that the Olomu has been discharging key responsibilities since 1954 under the Native Authority system, when Omupo served as the headquarters of the district, adding that the stool was upgraded to Second-Class status in 2002.
The Community also recalled that in 1898, the Olomu of Omupo led prominent Igbomina traditional rulers, including the Elese of Igbaja, Olusin of Isanlu-Isin, and Alapa of Eku-Apa, to meet with the Colonial Resident in Ilorin.
Highlighting recent developmental contributions, the statement added that the Omupo Cottage Hospital had, for two consecutive years (2024 and 2025), won the Provider of the Year Award from the Kwara Health Insurance Agency for its role in delivering affordable healthcare under the state’s health insurance scheme.
The Union, therefore, urged the State Governor to kindly approve the elevation of the Olomu stool to First-Class status, describing the request as consistent with the historical, traditional, and political standing of the position.
