Kwara Fire Service Recovers Two Bodies from Quarry Lake in Asa LGA

The Kwara State Fire Service has recovered the bodies of two young men who drowned in a quarry lake at Opete area of Asa Local Government Area of the state.
The tragic incident occurred on Monday, March 23, 2026, at about 5:08 p.m., prompting an emergency response from the fire service.
According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the agency, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, firefighters were swiftly deployed to the scene upon receiving distress calls.
On arrival, the rescue team carried out a recovery operation and retrieved the bodies of the victims, identified as Fatai Abdulraman, 26, and Muhammed Awal, 27.
The statement added that the remains were handed over to a relative, Mallam Abdulfatahi, for burial arrangements in accordance with family and religious rites.
Reacting to the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Alabi Muhammed, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives.
He warned residents against swimming or engaging in activities in quarry lakes and other unsafe water bodies, noting that such locations are often deep, unstable, and highly dangerous.
He also called on communities to take proactive measures by restricting access to such hazardous sites and ensuring that emergencies are reported promptly to relevant authorities.
The fire service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, while continuing to provide rapid response to emergencies across Kwara State.
