Deliberate Subjugation, Decimation of Kwara South No Longer Acceptable – Rev Fawenu

Rev. Cornelius Fawenu, Chairman, PDP, Kwara South Senatorial District, has commiserated with the people of Omugo in the Oro-Ago District of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State over the abduction of worshippers during a Sunday morning church service on 22nd March, 2026.

Rev Rev.  Fawenu in a signed statement the continuous attack leading to the decimation of Keara South Region is no longer acceptable.

According to him, while we pray for the safe and timely rescue of the abducted persons, it is necessary to state without mincing words that the incessant attacks leading to the decimation of the Kwara South region through killings and displacement of our people are no longer acceptable.

“To restate the obvious, whatever efforts the Government of Kwara State claims to be making are not enough, and we cannot continue like this.

“Except there is more than meets the eye, the approach required to tackle this menace should have changed from the usual delayed security response of reacting after the damage has been done, followed by placating press statements from the government and security agencies. Meanwhile, the attackers seem to be increasingly emboldened to continue their nefarious acts day by day.

“It is high time a non-partisan security summit is convened where all relevant stakeholders can speak frankly on the issues at hand, with a view to finding a collective solution.

“There is no need to beg the issue. The current government appears overwhelmed and at a loss on how to tackle the problem. If anyone thinks otherwise, then we are compelled to suspect an agenda that is questionable and which Kwara Southerners will resist. We are not a people who can be subjugated, nor will we stand by and allow our mineral-rich region to become a haven for bandits and their economic collaborators”, he added

Rev Fawenu noted that what began as farmers-herdsmen clashes has now degenerated into the desecration of places of worship in broad daylight.

“What else can this be described as, if not a suspicious agenda to keep the region in a perpetual state of panic? It first occurred during a midweek service in Eruku in Ekiti Local Government Area, and now during a Sunday morning service in Omugo, Ifelodun Local Government Area.

According to him, these incidents are in addition to those in Babanla, Oke-Ode, Agbeku, and several others too numerous to mention, including the brutal killing of local vigilantes in Oke-Ode.

“There have also been abductions of traditional rulers and religious leaders of both the Muslim and Christian faiths. As we speak, the Chief Imam of Babanla, who was abducted at Sagbe on his way from Tsaragi, is still being held captive.

“All these point in the same direction of a suspicious agenda that Kwara Southerners must unanimously resist. We cannot be denied our fair share of development and still remain silent under what appears to be a deliberate agenda of subjugation and decimation.

“Let the truth be told: the government has proven inadequate in addressing this crisis, and assistance must be sought from all possible quarters, including the international community. If sentiment prevents us from taking the necessary actions to rid our land of these criminal elements, history will not be kind in its judgment of us.

By the grace of God, under my leadership of the leading opposition political party in the region, we will soon convene a summit of well-meaning Kwara Southerners to set a clear agenda for a secure, united, and prosperous Kwara South.

“This agenda will be presented to the people as part of efforts to rescue our region from malicious negligence, a precarious security situation, unacceptable underdevelopment, and, worst of all, a deliberate attempt at subjugation and decimation for reasons best known to those who do not wish our region well.

“The era of silence and political correctness must be left behind. Now is the time to rescue our region,” Fawenu added.
