Man Allegedly Jumps Into Well, Dies After Taking Hard Drug in Kwara
Residents of Ile Alapo in the Edun area of Ilorin, Kwara State, were left in shock during the Eid celebration as a 43-year-old man, identified as Kazeem, was found dead in a domestic well after reportedly jumping in under the influence of a hard drug.
According to the Kwara State Fire Service, a distress call was received at about 10:29 a.m. alerting them to the incident. Firefighters were quickly dispatched to the location, where they recovered the lifeless body from the well.
In a statement issued by Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity for the Kwara State Fire Service, the victim was said to have taken a hard substance known as “Colorado” shortly after returning from Eid prayers before taking the fatal plunge.
“The man was confirmed dead before our officers arrived, but we were able to retrieve the body and handed it over to the appropriate authorities,” the statement said.
The body was later handed over to Inspector Babatunde Amos of the C Division Police Station in Ilorin, while officials await formal identification and collection by the deceased’s family.
Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, described the incident as painful and avoidable. He used the opportunity to warn residents, especially young people, about the dangers of drug abuse.
“This is another painful reminder of the dangers of substance abuse. We urge members of the public to avoid taking drugs that impair their judgment or endanger their lives,” Prince Falade said.
The tragic incident has cast a shadow over the Eid festivities in the area, prompting renewed calls for community awareness and government intervention on drug-related issues.
