Don’t compromise, CAN president tells security agencies

Ibadan – Rev. Supo Ayokunle, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has advised security agencies not to compromise in their statutory duty of securing the lives of citizens.
Ayokunle gave the advice in Ibadan on Thursday on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Education Management Board of the Nigerian Baptist Convention.
The CAN President said: ” In terms of security, it is not uhuru at all. The situation is deplorable.
“If I did not know before, I know now because about two weeks ago 14 members of my church, Bethel Baptist Church, were brutally murdered in Kogi State on the Lokoja-Abuja highway.
“There is a village there where they murdered 14 people over night, men dressed in army uniforms and they went away like that.
“It appears that the security agents are overwhelmed or that they are not doing their work sincerely.
” Otherwise, there is no reason why the bandits, the insurgents, the terrorists, the Boko Haram, ISWAP and so on should have an upper hand over our military.
“Whatsoever should be done should be done. It is terribly embarrassing and discouraging.
“The Commander-in-Chief just has to take the bull by the horns.
” I was encouraged when he asked security agents, ‘we closed all the borders, how are these people getting their ammunition? What is wrong?’
“I’m suspecting that something is fishy. So, every form of compromise in terms of security should be totally addressed and they should secure the lives of the citizens.”
Ayokunle, who is also the President, Nigeria Baptist Convention, enjoined Nigerians to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols to curtail the spread of the virus.
“There are so many trying things in our nation now. COVID-19 is a trying challenge, not only for Nigeria but the entire world.
“So, we should be circumspect and careful. We should observe the rules of social distancing and wear our face masks all the time and make sure that all the rules of hygiene are observed,” the cleric said. (NAN)
