The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has sworn in 1,677 corps members deployed to Bauchi State for the 2026 Batch C, Stream II service year.
The corps members, comprising 752 males and 925 females, took the oath of allegiance on Friday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Mr Umoren Kufre, the State Coordinator of NYSC, stated this during the swearing-in ceremony at the orientation camp.
He said the corps members were drawn from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, adding that the orientation exercise commenced on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
The State Coordinator explained that the orientation course was designed to prepare the corps members mentally, physically and psychologically for the challenges of the one-year national service.
According to him, activities lined up for the exercise included paramilitary drills, citizenship and leadership training, physical exercises, lectures, skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development.
Kufre expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the prospective corps members since their arrival at the camp, saying they had demonstrated humility, patriotism, loyalty and commitment to the ideals of the scheme.
He urged the corps members to maintain discipline and comply with the rules and regulations guiding activities at the orientation camp.
He also advised them to channel their grievances through the appropriate authorities rather than taking the law into their own hands.
The coordinator assured them that the camp management would continue to provide basic amenities, stressing that their safety and comfort remained a priority.
He commended Gov. Bala Mohammed for his continued support for the NYSC scheme in the state, particularly his commitment to the welfare and security of corps members.
In his presentation, the Bauchi State governor said his administration had completed the renovation of corps members hostels as well as the construction of a new Multipurpose hall at the camp.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Bashir Yau, the governor congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of their academic programmes and welcomed them to Bauchi State.
He described the NYSC as an important platform for promoting national unity and integration, noting that the orientation exercise was designed to develop the physical, psychological, mental and intellectual capacities of Nigerian youths.
He urged them to embrace the opportunity to serve the country with dedication, stressing that the future of Nigeria depended largely on the commitment and contributions of young people.
Mohammed further encouraged the corps members to justify the confidence reposed in them by the nation and contribute meaningfully to national development and transformation.
The Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Rabi Umar, who was represented at the ceremony by Justice Abdulsalam Waziri, administered the oath of allegiance to the corps members.
