Tinubu’s decision to place governance above electioneering campaign is novel, exemplary – TDF

The Democratic Front (TDF) has welcomed the decision by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to pay more attention to the demands of state duties rather than attend all campaign rallies in the run-up to the January 2027 presidential election.

In a statement by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, TDF said it was an indication of Tinubu’s personal sacrifice to ensure that official duties do not stagnate.

The statement read in full: “The pertinence of the President’s decision to prioritise governance over personal political interest is the remarkable proof of his readiness to walk the talk about his administration’s policy of ‘Nigeria First’, which was launched on the 5th of May 2025, after it was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

“Furthermore, it also underscores the seriousness the administration has attached to this crucial period in Nigeria’s economic history. And the President’s commitment to ensuring that the gains of his economic reforms are not jeopardised.

“We consider it unpatriotic and condemnable for any presidential candidate in the opposition camp to criticise President Bola Tinubu over his novel decision to place governance above partisan electioneering campaigns, the way and manner the presidential candidate of ADC Atiku Abubakar has done.

“We believe that President Tinubu has acted in the best interest of Nigeria. Only a leader who is genuinely concerned about the welfare and well-being of his people will make the kind of sacrifice that the President has made. Without any scintilla of doubt, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has introduced a groundbreaking innovation in Nigeria’s democratic culture that is worthy of emulation, and history will forever remember him for making such a remarkable pro-people decision.

“It also shows that the President has put in place a reliable, robust, and formidable presidential campaign team that can convince Nigerians on why his electoral mandate should be renewed for another four-year term, without necessarily distracting him from state obligations.

“We believe that a President like Bola Tinubu, who has turned the economy from the precipice, confronted insecurity head-on, and introduced student loans to provide easy access to tertiary education for indigent students, does not need much campaigning to persuade the electorate for his re-election.

“It is equally our opinion that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has transformed the Nigerian healthcare delivery system to facilitate the treatment of kidney ailments and cancer patients locally, invested huge public funds into agriculture to reduce and stabilise the cost of food in the open market, and consolidated the public revenue system to boost national income and productivity, would not need to be physically present at every campaign rally to tell the people why he should be re-elected, before they do the needful.”

The group added that it would therefore be delusional of any of the opposition presidential candidates to see inherent political advantage in President Tinubu’s decision to pay more attention to governance in the run-up to the election.
