The University of Ilorin has recorded another remarkable feat on the global stage as two of its distinguished personalities, Associate Professor Dr. Ruth Abiola Adimula and veteran journalist, Idris Alooma, emerged recipients of the prestigious Award of Excellence at the YOMAFA Global Awards Season 18.

The colourful award ceremony, held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Martino Events Centre and Hotels, Ikeja, Lagos, celebrated outstanding individuals whose professional accomplishments, leadership qualities and contributions have made significant impacts in their respective fields.

The event, hosted by Aare Dr. Tomori Williams, had the Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as the Chief Host.

The annual international awards recognise excellence and outstanding achievements across various sectors, including governance, business, entertainment, academia, media and community development.

The recognition of the two University of Ilorin ambassadors underscored the institution’s growing reputation for producing and nurturing individuals whose contributions extend beyond the university environment to national and international development.

Dr. Adimula, an Associate Professor at the University’s Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies, received the award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to peacebuilding, academic scholarship, human development and the promotion of a just and peaceful society.

A distinguished academic and prolific researcher, Dr. Adimula has, through her scholarly publications, professional engagements and public service, continued to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of knowledge and the promotion of humanity.

Beyond her academic accomplishments, she is a Federal Commissioner on Taxation and a former Special Adviser to a former Governor of Kwara State. She is also a respected legal practitioner and advocate whose interventions have consistently focused on the protection of women’s rights, children’s welfare, social justice and peaceful coexistence.

A Commonwealth Scholar, Dr. Adimula has distinguished herself through a combination of academic excellence, professional versatility and commitment to societal advancement.

In her reaction to the honour, an elated Dr. Adimula expressed profound gratitude to the organisers for finding her worthy of the recognition. She dedicated the award to Almighty God and the University of Ilorin, the institution where she continues to serve and contribute to academic and societal development.

Similarly, Idris Alooma, General Manager of the University of Ilorin FM Radio and a veteran journalist with over three decades of professional experience, was recognised for his outstanding contributions to journalism, broadcasting and national development.

Alooma, who has established himself as a respected voice in the Nigerian media industry, has consistently demonstrated professionalism, dedication and commitment to the growth of broadcasting.

Significantly, his recognition at this year’s edition represents another milestone in his distinguished career. Having received the global award in the last two editions, his elevation to the prestigious rank of Ambassador reflects the organisers’ appreciation of his consistency, professional integrity, enviable reputation and enduring contributions to the broadcasting industry.

His recognition also highlights the important role of responsible journalism and broadcasting in promoting national development, public enlightenment and democratic engagement.

In his response, the multiple award-winning journalist expressed appreciation to the organisers for the honour, describing the recognition as an encouragement to greater professional responsibility.

He noted that the reward for hard work was more work, stressing that the recognition would further inspire him to remain committed to excellence and continue using his professional calling as an instrument for positive change and national development.

The double recognition of Dr. Adimula and Alooma at the YOMAFA Global Awards Season 18 is another source of pride for the University of Ilorin, as it reinforces the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, professional distinction and service to humanity.

Their achievements also serve as encouragement to members of the university community, particularly young academics and media professionals, to pursue excellence, uphold integrity and make meaningful contributions to society.

For the University of Ilorin, the double honour is not merely a celebration of individual accomplishments but also a testament to the institution’s growing influence and the remarkable achievements of its members across different professional fields.
