INEC to Hold Stakeholders’ Meeting, Press Conference as 2027 Elections Enter 100-Day Countdown

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, hold a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting in Abuja to mark 100 days to the 2027 General Election.
The event is expected to provide the commission with an opportunity to update Nigerians and key participants in the electoral process on its level of preparedness for the elections.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by Adedayo Oketola, Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, the commission will provide updates on critical aspects of the electoral process, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures being implemented to protect the credibility and integrity of the elections.
Since assuming office as INEC Chairman in October 2025, Amupitan has repeatedly emphasised the commission’s responsibility to conduct elections that are free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive.
With the countdown now reaching the 100-day mark, pressure is expected to increase on INEC and other institutions involved in the electoral process to ensure that outstanding preparations are completed within the stipulated timeframe.
The World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting will be held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Proceedings are scheduled to commence at 10am, with invited participants expected to be seated before the start of the programme.
INEC said attendance would be strictly by invitation. Accredited media representatives and other invited guests will be required to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at designated security checkpoints.
The commission also announced that the event would be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed through its official social media platforms.
The meeting is expected to provide an important avenue for INEC to communicate its preparedness directly to political parties, security agencies, civil society groups, the media and other stakeholders as Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 general elections.
