Osun Accord Party Chairman Shot By Gunmen In Osogbo Attack

Asimiyu Ajibola, Chairman of the Accord Party in Osun State, is currently receiving treatment at the University of Osun Teaching Hospital after sustaining gunshot injuries in an attack by suspected gunmen in Osogbo.

According to police reports, the incident occurred at about 11:50 p.m. on Wednesday in the MDS area of Osogbo, where two armed men riding on a motorcycle allegedly opened fire on him in what authorities suspect to be an assassination attempt.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abiodun Ojelabi, said officers responded promptly to distress calls, evacuated the victim to a medical facility, and confirmed that he is in stable condition and responding well to treatment.

Security agencies have since launched an intensive manhunt for the attackers, while exhibits recovered from the scene are undergoing forensic analysis as part of ongoing investigations.

The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, condemned the attack and ordered a thorough investigation aimed at ensuring the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.

Authorities have also urged residents to remain calm and provide useful information that could assist security operatives in tracking down the suspects, as concerns over insecurity continue to grow across parts of the South-West region.
