Veteran Journalists in Kwara Hold Prayers for Families of Late Colleagues

The National Association of League of Veterans Journalists (NALVEJ), Kwara State Chapter, held a solemn prayer session in honour of three departed members – Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulMalik, Mr Yemi Zubair and Pa Ezekiel Ayanda, Ayancity.
The gathering, attended by journalists, family members and well-wishers, turned into a moment of deep reflection as religious leaders from both Christian and Islamic faiths charged Nigerians to embrace righteous living and selfless service.
Delivering his message, Rev. Felix Ajide, also a member of the league, reminded participants that death is an inevitable end for all, urging individuals to prioritise righteousness, fear of God and meaningful contributions to the society.
According to him, it is written in Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
“Death is a certainty for every human being. What matters most is how we live and the legacy we leave behind. We must strive to be good examples wherever we find ourselves,” he said.

In his contribution, Dr. Husain Musa Arikewusola of the University of Ilorin described death as one of life’s most difficult realities, noting that although the loss of loved ones is painful, it should inspire people to live with purpose and compassion.
“Many people find it hard to imagine life without their loved ones, but death is unavoidable. This reality should push us to live with faith, integrity and a sense of responsibility to humanity,” he stated.
Also speaking, Imam Faruq Busaeri Elega, who represented the family of the late Barrister AbdulRahman AbdulMalik, recounted the circumstances surrounding the journalist’s death and offered prayers for the repose of his soul and others being remembered.
He admonished journalists, particularly veterans, to uphold honesty and humility in their profession, stressing that character and service remain the true measure of a fulfilled life.
“After death, what endures is not wealth or status, but good character and the positive impact we have on others,” the Imam said, while also appreciating the association for honouring the deceased.

Chairman of NALVEJ in Kwara State, Alhaji Tunde Akanbi, explained that the prayer session was organised to honour the memories of Barrister AbdulRahman AbdulMalik, Elder Ezekiel Ayanda and Alhaji Yemi Zubair, who recently passed on.
He urged Nigerians to always be mindful of life’s uncertainties, warning that death can come unexpectedly.
“This gathering is a reminder to all of us that life is fragile. We must always be prepared and live each day with purpose,” Akanbi noted.
Tributes poured in from members of the association, who described the late journalists as committed professionals and individuals of integrity whose contributions to the media industry and society would be remembered.
Family members of the deceased also expressed gratitude to NALVEJ for organising the prayer session, praying for continued unity, strength and protection for members of the association.
