Kwara Govt Begins Construction of New Government Offices, Debunks Claim of New Government House

The Kwara State Government has commenced the construction of new office buildings within the Government House premises in Ilorin to accommodate more public and civil servants, as part of efforts to improve efficiency in governance and service delivery.

Speaking during the site handover to the contractor, Mapet Construction Ltd., the state Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr Segun Ogunsola, clarified that the initiative is strictly for administrative purposes and not the construction of a new Government House, contrary to some circulating rumours.

“This project is about improving the functionality of government operations, not about extravagance or a new Government House,” Dr Ogunsola said. “It is about creating a more conducive and adequate workspace for government officials to enhance productivity and public service outcomes.”

The new one-storey office complex, located beside the Deputy Governor’s Office, will include a conference room and multiple office spaces. Dr Ogunsola assured that the project will be closely monitored to ensure quality and timely delivery, with a completion target of one year.

“These offices will help close the current infrastructural gaps and align the state’s administration with modern public service standards. It will contribute to smoother coordination of government activities that touch both urban and rural areas,” he added.

Present at the handover event were QS Raheem Abdulbaki, General Manager of the Kwara State Public Procurement Agency; Alhaja Risikat Atinuke, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry; Alhaji Shina Akorede, Director of Administration and Finance, Government House; and Adepeju Ogunsakin of Baron Architecture, among others.

Architect Awolola Emmanuel Tolulope, who represented the construction firm, assured stakeholders of timely and high-quality delivery. “We have a track record of executing projects to standard, and this won’t be an exception. We’ll meet the one-year deadline with excellence.”

The project reflects the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration’s continuing focus on infrastructure development and institutional reform to drive better governance in Kwara State.
