KWASU Moves to Curb Rising Robbery Cases in Malete, Urges Calm Among Students

The university said that it has collaborated with security agencies, including the Nigeria Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and community policing units, to carry out joint patrols across Malete.
This is part of efforts to restore safety and forestall further attacks on student accommodations.
Registrar of the university, Dr. Kikelomo W. Sallee, in a statement issued on behalf of the management, assured students and the general public that steps are being taken to address the security challenge head-on.
“A joint security patrol is already in place across Malete to ensure the safety of our students and residents. We are also convening a stakeholders meeting to explore long-term solutions to the recurring robberies,” Dr. Sallee stated.
She appealed to students not to resort to self-help or take laws into their hands, emphasizing that security operatives are on the ground and actively monitoring the situation.
“We urge all KWASUites to remain calm and go about their lawful activities without fear. The situation is under control,” she added.
The university community has been tense following a spate of robberies in off-campus hostels, prompting concerns over the safety of students outside school premises. With these new measures, the management hopes to reassure the university community and restore normalcy to Malete.
