Prof Noah Yusuf Highlights Achievements in Four Years As Al-Hikmah Varsity VC
Prof. Noah Yusuf, Vice-Chancellor Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, has listed his modest achievements after four and a half years in office, while appealing to stakeholders to work together in unity.
Speaking at the 14th Convocation and 20th Anniversary Press briefing of the University in Ilorin on Tuesday, Prof Yusuf told newsmen that the institution inaugurated a 5-year Strategic plan, which is currently in place (for the first time) for implementation.
The Vice-Chancellor urged all stakeholders to continue to work together to build a university that is renowned for its academic excellence, innovative research, and character development, saying “Let us continue to inspire and empower our students to become leaders and change-makers in their communities.”
According to him, the institution under him also commenced Sabbatical leave with three academic staff currently on sabbatical leave in different Universities across the country.
“The institution began Campus beautification, which is obvious right from the University’s gate to the campus.
“A robust staff development programme was put in place, which has resulted to over 50 academic staff completing their Ph.D programmes with the support of the Management.
” The Establishment of Al-Hikmah University International School, which has secured the approval of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for its students to write both the senior and junior examinations.(viii)
“The Annual Report – 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 Annual Report have been printed while collation of reports for 2023/2024 is still on-going.
“55 academic programmes of the University secured National University Commission (NUC) full accreditation status in the last four andva half years.
“The Student support services – 5-aside football pitch at Adeta campus, sporting facilities in hostels were put in place for the recreation of students.
“The Vice-Chancellor’s in house committee on Research Times Higher Education Ranking already completed awaiting results,” he added.
Prof Yusuf said that the Agricultural production at Igbaja campus with the FRIN’s collaboration in Green campus initiative was also one of the institution’s achievements in the past four and half years.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, currently, the University plantation at Igbaja (with irrigation for-all-year farming) is fully in place.
“The Special Marshal was constituted as part of the University’s corporate social responsibility (CRS) to ensure traffic safety within and around the campus.
“The establishment of Al-Hikmah University Medical School. Just on, Sunday, 15th December, 2024, we received NUC approval letter for the commencement of MB;BS programme as from the current 2024/2025 academic session.
” The Institute of Education with an Acting Director and improved enrolment and the
establishment of the Centre for Peace and Security Studies.
“High profile graduating students including the current IGP, senior officers of the Nigerian Army and other Security agencies, Ambassadors and other eminent personalities had graduated from the centre.
” The revival of the Alumni Association and their active involvement in University activities – inter-campus transportation, provision of sport equipment, etc.” he added.
Prof Yusuf also recalled the establishment of the University Advancement Centre for engagement with the outside world and attracting international collaborations and funding.
Other achievements in the past four years included the inauguration of the University Ranking Committee, digitalization of academic and administrative activities:
– commencement of online promotion for both academic and non academic staff
– Online correspondence with Principal Officers.
– Embrace of blended learning modes.

He said that the University Governing Council in its 65th meeting, which was held on 14th December, 2024 approved the promotion of five academic staff to the post of Reader.
