NALVEJ Tasks NUJ Leadership on Training of Journalists

The National League of Veteran Journalists (NALVEJ) in Kwara State, has reminded the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ) at the national and state levels of the imperative of training and retraining of members of the union.

The league said regular training and retraining of journalists should be accorded topmost priority by the NUJ leadership to enable journalists report events accurately and in strict compliance with the ethics of their profession.

In a statement issued at the end of its monthly meeting held on Wednesday at the NUJ Press Centre, Ilorin, the association of senior journalists lamented the activities of bloggers which it noted is eroding the good image of the NUJ.

The league in the statement signed by its chairman, Alhaji Tunde Akanbi and the publicity secretary, Alhaji Abdullahi Olesin, noted that members of the public could not differentiate between the journalists and bloggers, who have dominated the social media spaces simply because they have access to phones.

It, therefore, encouraged the NUJ leadership across the board to put in place accurate data of its members to distinguish a journalist from a quack and or a blogger.
