Osun Assembly Passes New Town & Growth Areas Devt. Authority Bill; Confirms Judiciary Service Commission Members

The State of Osun House of Assembly has passed Osun New Towns and Growth Areas Development Authority bill 2022.

The bill was passed on Thursday during the plenary of the House of Assembly Osogbo.

The bill was passed following the motion moved by the Majority leader of the House Hon. Maroof Olanrewaju and seconded by Hon. Desmond Ojo representing Oriade State Constituency respectively.

Earlier, the Majority leader Hon. Maroof Olanrewaju while speaking on its Policy Thrust, noted that the bill would give the state opportunity to sell and lease landed properties.

He said that the bill would monitor the authority that control the affairs of the new towns while the social amenities would be also enjoying.

He ensured that the bill would facilitate new buildings and control parks and gardens across the state.

He added also that the bill would improve internally generated revenue of the state.

In their various contributions, the lawmakers noted that the bill would assist to achieve road setback on major roads in the state.

They said the bill would enhance development of rural areas and generate revenue to the state.

They said that the bill if pass into law would have control of construction of new towns effectively.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the Parliament, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye noted that the bill would encourage the development of new estate and Government Reservation Areas (GRA) in place.

He ensured that the bill would has control over the affairs of the new towns.

He ensured that the bill would take care of new towns and gardens across the state.

In another development, the state House of Assembly also confirmed the governor Gboyega Oyetola nominees for Judiciary Service Commission in the state after the motion moved by the Majority leader Hon. Maroof Olanrewaju and seconded by Hon. Mulikat Jimoh respectively.

The nominees included Hon. Mikail Rotimi Makinde, Mr. Olufemi Akande, Mr. Salman Adebayo and Mr. Christopher Oloruntomilola respectively.

Earlier, the House of Assembly has adopted the reports of the screening exercise of the House Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, Public Petitions who had screened the governors nominees.

Also confirmed by the House of Assembly is the Auditor General of the state Mr Kolapo Idris.

However, the Auditor General Mr. Kolapo Idris was confirmed by the lawmakers after the motion moved by the majority leader Hon. Maroof Olanrewaju and seconded by Hon. Gbenga Ogunkanmi representing Ayedire state Constituency respectively.

The speaker Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye in his remarks noted that office of auditor general is under the control of House of Assembly.

He warned that auditor general should not have the thinking that its office is not under the control of House of Assembly.

He urged the governor Gboyega Oyetola to proceed with the swearing in respectively.

According to him, as from now governor Gboyega Oyetola can proceed with swearing in of the confirmed nominees”.

In another development, the Speaker Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye has sermoned the consultant Mrs Tawakalitu William and contractor handling Ilesa water project to appear before the lawmakers on Tuesday to come and explain the delaying on transmission, sanitation and treatment plants of Ilesa water project.

Meanwhile, also directed Accountant General of the state, director, deputy director and their officers to appear before the lawmakers tomorrow.

Also the State of Osun Standardize Car Washing Services bill 2022 was passed through first reading at the today plenary.
