The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has congratulated one of his predecessors, Prof. Emeritus Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, on his turbaning as Kuliyan Sokoto by the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

Prof. Egbewole also congratulated the Sultan on the 20th anniversary of his ascension to the revered throne of the Sokoto Caliphate, appreciating him for finding Prof. Emeritus Oloyede, who served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin between 2007 and 2012, worthy of the prestigious traditional title.

The Vice-Chancellor, in a statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, described the conferment of the title on Prof. Emeritus Oloyede, the immediate past Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), as a well-deserved honour for a distinguished public servant, detribalised Nigerian, bridge-builder and incorruptible statesman.

Prof. Egbewole particularly rejoiced with Prof. Emeritus Oloyede, who is also the Secretary-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA),

The Vice-Chancellor noted that the traditional honour was a recognition of his remarkable contributions to educational development, service excellence, community development and humanitarian causes.

He described the renowned Professor of Islamic Jurisprudence as “a veritable symbol of renewed hope for national rebirth.”

While wishing the new Kuliyan Sokoto a long and fruitful tenure in his traditional assignment, Prof. Egbewole, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West Africa Universities (AWAU), observed that the conferment was an indication that Nigeria still had much to benefit from the experience, wisdom and leadership capacity of the former JAMB boss.

The Vice-Chancellor also felicitated the Sultan on his 20th anniversary on the throne, describing his reign as one that has continued to promote societal peace, religious harmony and national development.

He commended the Sultan for his exemplary leadership and contributions to fostering peaceful coexistence and unity across the country.

Prof. Egbewole wished the Sultan, who is also the Sarkin Musulmi and President-General of the NSCIA, many more years of life in sound health and a more rewarding reign on the throne of the Sokoto Caliphate.
