The people of Omupo, popularly known as Osomu and Molomu, at home and in the diaspora, have expressed profound joy and appreciation over the elevation of the Olomu of Omupo Stool to First-Class status by the Kwara State Government.
The National President of the Omupo Descendants Union, Dr. Monisoye Olorunsola Afolabi, in a statement issued on behalf of Omupo descendants worldwide, congratulated His Royal Majesty, Oba Muhammed-Yakubu Adebayo Buari II, Ilufemiloye, Olomu of Omupo, on the historic and well-deserved elevation.
The union also expressed its sincere appreciation to the Kwara State Governor, His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for the elevation of the Olomu Stool to First-Class status, describing the decision as a further demonstration of the administration’s commitment to the principles of equity, fairness and justice in the governance of the state.
According to the statement, the elevation represents a significant milestone in the history of Omupo and a crowning achievement in the 16-year reign of Oba Buari.
“Kabiyesi, you have done it again! Your 16-year reign has witnessed the elevation of the Olomu Stool first to Second-Class status and now to the prestigious First-Class category.
We congratulate you on this historic and unprecedented achievement,” the statement said.
The union noted that the elevation had brought immense joy and excitement to sons and daughters of Omupo, describing it as a long-awaited development that had finally come as a resounding answer to the people’s steadfast prayers, patience, dedication and perseverance.
It further acknowledged the monarch’s contributions to the peace, unity and development of Omupoland, noting that his reign had brought about “invaluable peace, immeasurable happiness, as well as steady and landmark social and economic development” to the community.
The statement attributed these achievements to the monarch’s purposeful leadership, fear of God, openness, fairness, integrity and unwavering commitment to the progress and wellbeing of the people of Omupo.
Dr. Afolabi further observed that the elevation could also be regarded as a recognition of the historical and leadership roles played by the Olomu Aperan, an ancestor of the present monarch, in the various struggles for the emancipation, self-determination, preservation and continued relevance of the Igbomina people.
“As Your Royal Majesty ascends this rightful and pre-eminent position, we pray that Almighty God will grant you abundant wisdom, divine guidance, sound health and longevity to continue to lead Omupoland and its people to greater heights, prosperity, peace and happiness,” the statement added.
The Omupo Descendants Union expressed confidence that the elevation would further strengthen the traditional institution and provide a renewed platform for greater development, unity and prosperity in Omupoland.
The union once again congratulated Oba Muhammed-Yakubu Adebayo Buari II, the royal family and the entire people of Omupo on the historic milestone.
