Dr Audu Musa’s Exit Won’t Derail PDP’s 2027 Mission — Ekiti PDP Stakeholders
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State have described the resignation of Dr Audu Idowu Musa from the party as regrettable, saying his departure would not affect the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by their leader, Chief Mrs. Ebun Owolabi, the stakeholders said Dr Audu’s decision to leave the party appeared to have been driven more by his personal aspiration to secure the House of Representatives ticket than by the issues of justice, equity and fairness cited in his resignation letter.
The stakeholders noted that Dr Audu participated in the party’s nomination process and had the opportunity to contest fairly, stressing that his failure to emerge as the party’s candidate should not be interpreted as evidence of injustice or denial of a fair opportunity.
They said, as a party man, he should have accepted the outcome in the spirit of collective responsibility and loyalty to the party.
They maintained that political parties thrive on consultation, competition, compromise and respect for democratic outcomes, adding that individual political ambitions, however legitimate, should not override the collective interest of the party and the people.
According to them, the PDP provided a platform for Dr Audu to pursue his aspiration, and the outcome of the process should be respected.
While acknowledging Dr Audu’s right to make his political choices, the stakeholders said his departure remained regrettable, particularly given his contributions and the relationships he had built within the party.
They, however, stressed that his resignation would not diminish the strength, unity or determination of the PDP in Ekiti Local Government.
They said the major issues confronting the people ahead of the 2027 elections go beyond the resignation of any individual, pointing particularly to insecurity, which they said had deeply affected communities and led to the loss of productive members of society.
“Our people are deeply concerned about the realities they face, particularly insecurity, which has penetrated our communities and claimed the lives of able and productive citizens. Families have been affected, livelihoods disrupted, and communities left anxious about their safety and future,” they said.
The stakeholders reaffirmed the readiness of the PDP to engage the electorate and provide a credible platform for accountable leadership, saying the party remained focused on issues that directly affect the lives, security and welfare of the people.
They urged members and supporters not to be distracted by the resignation, insisting that the development would not alter the party’s commitment to the 2027 electoral contest.
They further assured the people of Ekiti Local Government that the PDP remained united, organised and fully prepared for the political contest ahead, adding that the people would ultimately make their decision based on their experiences, concerns and expectations for the future.
“Our commitment remains firmly with the people, and our focus is on building a stronger, safer and more prosperous future for our communities,” the stakeholders said.
