Police-Community Partnership Takes Centre Stage as Kwara CP Unveils Renovated Ilorin Division
The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, has reaffirmed the importance of collaboration between the police and residents in tackling crime, saying stronger community partnerships remain critical to effective policing.
The police commissioner made the remark while commissioning the newly renovated ‘C’ Division Police Station at Oja-Oba, Ilorin, describing the upgraded facility as a product of collective commitment to strengthening security infrastructure in the state.
The event was attended by the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Traditional Rulers, Mai-Martaba Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, represented by the Balogun Alanamu of Ilorin, Prof. Usman Atolagbe Abubakar Jos, alongside senior police officers, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders.
Speaking during the ceremony, Adekimi said the renovation demonstrated what could be achieved through sustained cooperation between the police and members of the public.
He commended the Divisional Police Officer, DSP Saliu Abdulganiyu Kayode, as well as community members and other supporters whose contributions made the project possible.
“The transformation of this facility is a demonstration of the importance of Police-community partnership in strengthening security and enhancing policing infrastructure,” the commissioner said.
In his response, DSP Kayode thanked the commissioner for the confidence reposed in him and appreciated members of the community for their unwavering support throughout the renovation project.
As part of efforts to encourage public participation in policing, the command honoured several individuals and organisations with Police Ambassador Awards for their contributions to security and community development.
The recipients included Dr. Hassan Ibrahim Sanni, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Shelter Setters Aluminium; Most Special Apostle Chief Oluwole Awotunyi of Tuyil Pharmaceutical Limited; Alhaji Haheem Alubarika Olohunkemi Arademi, proprietor of Neemar Raheem International School, Ilorin; Otunba Taofeeq Abefe Azeez Bello, Chairman of Solid Worth Hotel and Suite; Alhaji Abdulwahab Adetayo Hassan; and DSP Saliu Abdulganiyu Kayode.
Adekimi also charged officers attached to the division to justify the improved working environment by demonstrating professionalism, discipline and greater respect for the rights of citizens.
He urged them to ensure that the renovated facility translates into improved service delivery and more responsive policing for residents.
The commissioner further reaffirmed the Kwara State Police Command’s commitment to the policing agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, with emphasis on professionalism, community engagement and building public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
