Kwara Veteran Journalists Elect, Inaugurate New Executive led by Alhaji Tunde Akanbi 

 

The newly elected executive members of the National League of Veteran Journalists (NALVEJ), Kwara State Chapter, were on Wednesday inaugurated at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Ilorin, the state capital.

This is contained in a statement signed by Alhaji Abdullahi Olesin, the Publicity Secretary of the association in Ilorin on Wednesday

The inauguration ceremony, attended by veteran journalists, media professionals and dignitaries, marked the formal commencement of the tenure of the new leadership headed by Alhaji Mohammed Tunde Akanbi.

The event was organised by the association’s Electoral Committee, chaired by Alhaji Yinusa Giwa, with Hajia Bilqis Oladimeji serving as Secretary, and Rev. Felix Ajide as a member.

A retired official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Barrister Jacob Ayanda, administered the oath of office to the newly elected executives.

Other members of the executive include Comrade Olu Ajayi (Vice Chairman), Mrs Christy Doyin (Secretary), Rev. Felix Ajide (Assistant Secretary), Alhaji Sule Sabi (Treasurer), Alhaja Jumoke Adeyemi (Financial Secretary), Mr Gbenga Olarinoye (Welfare Officer), and Alhaji Abdullahi Olesin (Publicity Secretary).

Speaking at the ceremony, the Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, Mrs Bolanle Olukoju, commended members of NALVEJ for their continued support for the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Represented by the Director of Information, Mr Ademola Olarewaju, the Commissioner assured journalists of the state government’s continued partnership and support for the media.

In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Tunde Akanbi, highlighted the association’s commitment to the welfare of its members, noting that NALVEJ had facilitated the enrolment of members in the Kwara State Health Insurance Scheme and regularly organised health awareness programmes.

Akanbi pledged to lead the association with accountability, transparency and inclusiveness, promising to consolidate the achievements of previous administrations.

He also appreciated the Kwara State Government for the regular and prompt payment of salaries to journalists in its employment, as well as the recent approval of a peculiar allowance for journalists working in state-owned media organisations.

The NALVEJ Chairman appealed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to consider qualified members of the association for political appointments during the reconstitution of the State Executive Council.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, Ahmed AbdulLateef, represented by the Vice Chairman, Alhaja Binta Mora, congratulated the new executive and praised veteran journalists for their invaluable guidance and contributions to the journalism profession. He reaffirmed the NUJ’s commitment to sustaining its cordial relationship with NALVEJ.

Goodwill messages were delivered by a former Kwara State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Hameed Adio; the General Managers of UNILORIN FM and Harmony FM, Idofian, Alhaji Ibrahim Akintola (Idris Aloma) and Alhaja Binta Mora, respectively; as well as the former Kwara State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr Segun Adeyemi.

The speakers congratulated the new leadership and urged the executive to promote the welfare of members while upholding the ideals and ethics of the journalism profession.
