Middle East Crisis: Iran Threatens to Derail Switzerland Negotiations

Iran is now threatening to derail the Switzerland negotiations after President Trump warned that the U.S. could strike Iran again — “very hard… only harder.”

Iranian state and regime-linked media say Tehran is treating Trump’s statement as a direct military threat made in the middle of talks.

IRGC-owned Tasnim reports that Iran’s delegation is reviewing “appropriate response options” following Trump’s warning.

Al-Manar reports that the Iranian negotiating team walked out of the meeting in protest.

An informed Iranian source said Trump’s threat halted the Switzerland negotiations and left their continuation uncertain.

Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB says the delegation is now consulting, and it is unclear whether they will return to the negotiation room or abandon the talks entirely.

Trump had warned: “If they don’t, we’ll hit Iran very hard again, just like we did last week, only harder!!!”

Meanwhile,  the opening moments of the U.S.-Iran talks in Switzerland has drew much attention for their unusual optics:

• The U.S. delegation, led by Vice President JD Vance, entered the meeting room before the Iranian delegation and was already seated when Iranian officials arrived.

• Vance entered while members of the press were present.

• Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf reportedly delayed his entrance until after media personnel had left the room.

• Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi entered after the American delegation and did not participate in a handshake.

The meeting marked one of the highest-level face-to-face encounters between U.S. and Iranian officials in years, as both sides seek to establish a framework for potential negotiations.
