UNILORIN Mourns Former Vice Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has announced the passing of its former Vice Chancellor, Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali, OON, who served as the institution’s ninth Vice Chancellor between 2012 and 2017.

This is contained in a statement signed by Chief Kunle Akogun, the Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin and made available to newsmen on Saturday.

Professor Ambali reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday after a brief illness. He was 68 years old.

Announcing the sad development, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN,  described the late academic as an outstanding scholar whose contributions to higher education and national development would be remembered for years.

The death of Prof. Ambali, according to the Vice Chancellor, is a huge loss not only to the University of Ilorin and the Kwara State University, Malete, which he currently serves as Pro-Chancellor but also to the entire nation and humanity.

Prof. Egbewole, who has sympathised with the family of the great scholar and the people of the Ilorin Emirate, enjoined sympathisers, particularly members of the UNILORIN community to attend the Janazah for the late ex-Vice Chancellor at his Oloje Housing Estate, Ilorin, by 4.pm.today, Saturday,June 6, 2026.
