President Tinubu Appoints Prof. Segun Aina as New JAMB Registrar

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Prof. Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), following the conclusion of the tenure of the incumbent Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede.
According to a State House press statement issued on Wednesday, Prof. Oloyede’s two-term tenure at the helm of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board will expire on July 31, 2026.
Prof. Aina, a 39-year-old academic and systems expert, is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
He is widely regarded for his expertise in digital infrastructure, examination systems, and public sector technology reform.
He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.
The statement noted that Prof. Aina began his professional journey with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year, where he gained early exposure to national admissions processes and data-driven institutional systems.
With over 15 years of professional experience, he has worked at the intersection of technology and governance, advising both federal and state governments on digital transformation, systems design, and institutional reform. He is also recognised as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering.
He has served as a consultant to key examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and several state Ministries of Education, particularly on ICT integration and examination integrity systems.
Prof. Aina is a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new JAMB Registrar would build on the achievements of his predecessor and further strengthen the Board’s operations through innovation, digital reform, and institutional efficiency.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on May 21, 2026.
