Police Bust Alleged Cult-Linked Robbery Gang in Ilorin, Recover Weapon

The Kwara State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on violent crime, arresting two suspected armed robbers and cultists accused of terrorising residents around the Amoyo area of Ilorin.
The suspects, identified as Abdulazeez Isiaq, popularly known as “Pumpin,” and Rilwan Mohammed, were apprehended following a reported robbery incident on April 19, 2026, at Kabba Kajola Junction.
Police sources said the operation was driven by swift intelligence gathering, which led to their arrest, while efforts are ongoing to track down another fleeing accomplice.
According to findings, the suspects allegedly attacked their victims, dragged them to an uncompleted building believed to serve as their hideout, and threatened to kill them before dispossessing them of valuables.
Items reportedly stolen include an iPhone 13, a Samsung A2S, and other personal belongings.
Spokesperson of the Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed that a locally made pistol and one of the stolen phones were recovered from the suspects during the operation.
“The suspects have confessed to the crime, and investigations are ongoing to unravel the full extent of their activities,” she said.
Further investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department revealed that the suspects are allegedly members of the notorious Eiye confraternity, a group linked to several cases of armed robbery and cult-related killings in Ilorin and surrounding communities.
Police authorities described Abdulazeez Isiaq as a known figure in criminal circles, noting that his arrest has dealt a significant blow to organised crime in the area.
“The Command remains resolute in its efforts to rid Kwara State of criminal elements and ensure the safety of all residents,” the police spokesperson added.
The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, while security operatives continue to intensify efforts to apprehend other members of the gang.
