Kwara Governorship Aspirant Dissociate Self from Purported Kwara North Stakeholders Mega Rally

Hon. Mahmud Hassan Babako, a gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Edu Local Government Area of Kwara North has dissociated himself from the stakeholders rally calling for selection of Kwara North candidate.
This is contained in a statement signed personally and made available to newsmen in Ilorin on Wednesday.
My attention has been drawn to a purported “resolution” credited to Kwara North Elders/Stakeholders arising from a meeting allegedly held on Saturday, 11th April 2026, at Millenium Peak Hotel, Ilorin, and co-signed by Rt. Hon. Isa Bio Ibrahim and Engr. Abdulkarim Layi Ayinde.
I, Hon. Mahmud Hassan Babako, a gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Edu Local Government Area of Kwara North, hereby categorically dissociate myself and my supporters from the outcome of that gathering, which I consider a fraudulent assembly of desperate power mongers masquerading as representatives of Kwara North.
It is unfortunate that such a meeting, cloaked under the guise of Kwara North region agitation, is being used as a decoy to advance narrow, self-serving interests of a particular person.
Of particular note is the so-called mega rally proposed as part of the resolutions, which is being deceptively presented as a collective push for power shift to Kwara North, whereas in reality, it is a calculated and divisive plot targeted at undermining stakeholders, especially from the Edu, Moro, and Patigi axis.
If indeed the gathering was genuinely convened to promote the Kwara North agenda, one must ask: why were key gubernatorial aspirants and critical stakeholders from Edu, Moro, and Patigi deliberately excluded from such an important deliberation? This glaring omission exposes the insincerity and hidden agenda behind the meeting and the planned rally.
It is equally important to remind our people that many of those now championing the so-called Kwara North agenda were among those who undermined the region’s collective interest during the 2023 general elections.
When Alhaji Shuaib Yaman Abdullah emerged as the PDP gubernatorial candidate, these same individuals not only opposed his candidacy but actively worked to ensure his defeat across the region. Such conduct represents the height of hypocrisy and betrayal against their own people.
Furthermore, it is on record that some of these actors, particularly fellow aspirants from the Baruten and Kaiama axis, have consistently sidelined credible and promising aspirants from Edu, Moro, and Patigi in their political calculations. This pattern of exclusion reinforces the divisive intent behind their recent actions.
In light of the foregoing, I call on all party members, leaders, stakeholders, and our revered traditional rulers across Kwara North to see through the smokescreen and reject any attempt to manipulate our collective aspiration for selfish ends.
Our unity must not be sacrificed on the altar of some people personal ambition. I also urge my supporters and the good people of Kwara North to refrain from participating in any so-called rally that is designed not to unite us, but to deepen division and weaken our shared political strength
Signed:
Hon. Mahmud Hassan Babako
APC Gubernatorial Aspirant
