Bandits Kill Five Forest Guards in Midnight Raid on Kwara PMF Camp
Five members of the National Forest Guard have been confirmed dead following a deadly attack by suspected bandits on a Police Mobile Force (PMF) camp in Nuku village, Kaiama area of Kwara State.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, has heightened fresh concerns over security in the state’s border communities.
In a statement issued in Ilorin by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the command disclosed that the attackers stormed the camp at about 3:45 a.m. in a coordinated operation.
According to the statement, “bandits launched a coordinated attack on the PMF Camp at Nuku village where five members of the National Forest Guard were fatally shot.”
The police further revealed that the assailants also damaged a patrol vehicle belonging to security operatives before officers at the camp successfully repelled the ആക്രമers.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric and unacceptable.
“The Command expresses deep sympathy to the families of the deceased and condemns the attack in the strongest terms,” the statement read.
He assured residents that security agencies have swung into action, deploying both tactical and intelligence-driven operations to track down those responsible.
“The Command assures residents that tactical and intelligence-driven operations have commenced to track down the perpetrators while continuous monitoring of the situation is ongoing to ensure safety and prevent further security breaches,” the police added.
Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and support ongoing investigations by volunteering credible information that could lead to the arrest of the attackers.
The latest incident adds to growing security concerns in parts of Kwara North, with stakeholders calling for intensified surveillance and stronger collaboration between local communities and security agencies.
