Embedding Entrepreneurship Education In Varsity Curriculum Will Equip Nigerian Graduates With Skills – Group

The Tinubu Media Volunteers have described the launch of the Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Business Incubation Certification programme with 14 universities as initial beneficiaries as timely and necessary.
It said in a statement signed by its Chairman Chukwudi Enekwechi and Secretary Segun Ogedengbe that it would go a long way to equipping leaders of tomorrow with adequate practical skills not mere academic certification.
“The EIBIC initiative is aimed at embedding entrepreneurship education into the academic experience of students, equipping them with innovative thinking and practical skills needed to drive productivity and economic growth.
“We also note that EIBEC has become necessary and timely as it is designed to embed entrepreneurship across all disciplines including engineering, medicine, law, the sciences and the creative arts.
“What we see in this innovation is that it will enable Nigerian students to develop interests that will translate their knowledge, talents and passion into viable enterprises.
“We acknowledge that the programme has the potential to upscale the theoretical knowledge of students to enterprise that will boost their productivity and contributions to national development,” it added.
TMV noted that the programme will make Nigerian graduates more employable in the short term.
“We also believe that the move will lead to the creation of employment and change the behavioural attitude of students from mere certification to creativity and productivity.
“We recall that Nigeria’s education system had been tailored after the colonial education system which focused more on clerical certification rather than practical skills, and which mainly served the interest of the British colonial masters.
“It is also noted that 14 universities will benefit from the first phase of the programme and the rest will be included in subsequent phases,” it said.
The group added that the Tinubu administration is focused on changing the educational template in a way that will rechannel Nigerian students’ energies to the practical realities of the modern world.
