Kwara Schools Resume Monday as Government Assures Parents of Improved Security

The Kwara State Government has approved the reopening of all schools across the state from Monday, February 2, 2026, following what it described as significant improvement in the security situation.
The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, announced the decision on Sunday, saying it came after sustained security operations against criminal elements threatening public safety, including schools.
According to him, school authorities across the state have already been informed of the development to enable them prepare for the resumption of academic activities.
“The government has carefully reviewed the security situation and deems it now to be a lot better than it was before. Even so, we will continue to maintain vigilance to ensure the safety of learners, teachers and school facilities,” Olohungbebe said.
He explained that security agencies are still actively engaged in operations to neutralise remaining threats, stressing that the reopening of schools does not signal a relaxation of efforts to secure communities.
The commissioner added that the state government is combining ongoing security actions with measures aimed at strengthening community resilience, noting that residents also have a role to play by supporting security agencies with timely information.
Olohungbebe assured parents and guardians that the safety of students remains a top priority of the administration, urging them to cooperate with school authorities as academic activities resume.
The statement was signed by Mr. Peter Amogbonjaye, Press Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, on February 1, 2026.
