Kwara Firefighters Halt Late-Night Blaze, Save Harmony FM Station

A swift response by operatives of the Kwara State Fire Service on Saturday night averted what could have been a major disaster at Harmony FM 103.5 in Idofian, Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The incident, which occurred around 8:02pm, started from the station’s generator house and threatened to spread to the main studio complex.
According to officials, the fire was triggered by a spark from the generator battery, which quickly caught onto combustible materials stored nearby. Firefighters, however, arrived promptly and battled the flames before they could reach the broadcasting facilities, safeguarding the station’s equipment and preventing an interruption of its services.
The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged organisations that depend on generators to prioritise safety and maintenance.
“It is important for businesses to keep generator battery terminals clean, carry out routine checks and ensure that flammable materials are kept far from power sources,” he said.
He added that having fire extinguishers in generator houses and training staff on basic fire-response measures could significantly reduce risks.
He assured residents that the Fire Service remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state.
The Head of Media and Publicity for the Service, PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, confirmed the development in a statement.
