AGILE Project Centre…. we ‘ll produce 200 learners , says HRH Onijagbo of Ijagbo

 

The Onijagbo of Ijagboland, HRH Oba Sarafa Adeniyi Buhari Babalola Ilufemiloye 1 has commended the Kwara State government for providing a second chance opportunity for out of school adolescent girls and young mothers in the State through the AGILE project.

The Royal Father made the comment while responding to a community sensitization programme at Ijagbo in Oyun LGA organised by GLOHWOC, promising to ensure more than enough learners for the Ijagbo learning centre.

Speaking at the community sensitization at Ijagbo, Dr Christy Abayomi Oluwole, CEO, Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation, explained that the AGILE project is a World Bank initiative with Kwara State government through the Kwara State Mass Literacy Agency in collaboration with GLOHWOC, as the implementing partner.

The project is aimed at providing a second chance opportunity for Adolescent girls and young mothers that have missed the first opportunity of going to school normally due to poverty , sickness, pregnancy etc.

She highlighted that beneficiaries must be out of school adolescent girls and young mothers of 15 to 24 years of age, including persons leaving with disabilities.

Dr Christy Abayomi Oluwole urged the people of Ijagbo to provide enough learners for the Ijagbo learning centre, not only to be able to retain the centre but to facilitate other infrastructural benefits for the centre.

According to her, 20 centres were approved for Kwara State, and Ijagbo community is lucky to have one centre where beneficiaries can lean literacy and numeracy freely without any payment and can also further their education in additional to life skills acquisition in different areas.

In his presentation, The Head of Department, Monitoring and Evaluation Kwara State Agency for Mass Education, Dr Hanafi Ishaq Abdulsalami, reiterated the State government’ commitment to mass literacy by ensuring a robust informal education system that caters for those that cannot benefit from the formal system.

He explained that the normal mass literacy classes are on going in the State but the AGILE project is to further boost education amongst young girls and children that are more prone to missing formal education in our communities

The community sensitization which took place at the palace of His Royal Highness, Onijagbo of Ijagbo was well attended by Chiefs, Officials of GLOHWOC, Agency for Mass Education, former State Director NOA Mr OluSegun Adeyemi, Learners, Facilitators and community members.
