Mr Ali Gar, the Bauchi state Coordinator of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) has said that the project would construct 42 junior and senior secondary schools in the state.
He stated this in Bauchi on Friday during the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child celebration, organised by the state Ministry of Education in collaboration with the office of the wife of the state governor with support from AGILE.
According to him, AGILE which is a World Bank supported project implemented by the Federal Ministry of Education would construct 21 junior secondary schools and 21 senior secondary schools.
“The project intends to support adolescent girls by providing safe learning spaces in secondary schools.
“The project would construct 21 new Junior Secondary Schools and 21 Senior Secondary Schools.
“The new school packages will include classrooms with adequate lighting and good ventilation, storage, solar, and furniture.
“The schools would also have gender-separate toilets, WASH facilities and security measures like fences and perimeter walls,” he said.
Gar also explained that the project would improve existing infrastructure in secondary schools by rehabilitating all existing Public Junior and senior secondary schools in the state.
He further added that the project would also address the issue of drop out and out-of-school children across the 20 Local Government Areas of the state.
Also speaking, Dr Jemila Dahiru, the state Commissioner for Education, said that the International Day of the Girl Child celebration serves as a reminder that girls were not just passive recipients of the future but were active creators of it.
“Every girl deserves the right to envision and realise a future where she can thrive, free from barriers and discrimination.
“Whether her dreams are to become a scientist, an artist, a leader, or an innovator, it is our collective duty to support her journey.
“As a government, we are dedicated to ensuring that these pillars of support to our girls through the provision of access and equal opportunities are firmly in place,” she said.
She was represented by Hajiya Zainab Baba-Tako, Commissioner for Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development.
