Traditional Rulers Applaud Prof. Egebewole’s Grassroots Impact

 

The traditional heads of Oke-Ose and Oke-Oyi communities in the Ilorin-East Local Government Area of Kwara State, Alhaji Ibrahim Jinadu and Alhaji AbdulQodir Solihu Odedeyi, respectively, have commended the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, on the impact of the University COBES students on their communities.

The monarchs gave this commendation penultimate Friday (August 30, 2024) while receiving the delegation of the Faculty of Agriculture led by its Dean, Prof. Oluyemisi Fawole, which was on visitation to the students.

In their separate remarks, the royal fathers stated that the students have been very helpful, and have been able to impact the communities as they have also ensured adequate transfer of knowledge to the farmers.

The traditional rulers appreciated the University for the well-thought-out programme and the items donated to them.

Speaking earlier, the Dean, who was represented by Prof. Israel Ogunlade, charged the students to be diligent in the programme as it was an opportunity to learn, unlearn, and relearn, adding that no knowledge is wasted.

In his remarks, the Faculty COBES Coordinator, Prof. Lateef Lawal Adefalu, commended the students for making the University proud and appreciated the traditional rulers for accommodating the students during the period of their stay.

Prof. Adefalu described the programme as one that is of great importance to both the students and their host communities.

He said, “The programme has become a yearly tradition in which the students can marry the theories taught in the classrooms with what is happening in real-life farming.

The programme helps to promote synergy between the University and the rural communities surrounding the University.”

The 533 students, drawn from both the 400 to 500 levels, were posted to 10 different communities including Oke Oyi, Oke Ose, Ile Apa and Lajiki, among others.

The highlights of the event included the donation of Knapsack sprayers to all the10 communities for their farm usage.
