LG Elections: Gov. Mohammed Flags Off Campaign

By Idris Ayinde
Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state has flagged off the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) campaign exercise ahead of the Aug. 17 local government elections in the state.
Speaking during the flag off ceremony in Bauchi on Wednesday, Mohammed said that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s electioneering and campaign was not a gimmick nor a deception.
He said the party would go to the people so as to know that they were highly respected and for them to decide how to have good governance at the local level
Mohammed called on all the candidates of the PDP not to think that because the party is in government and let their guards down but they should go to every corner, campaign and bring victory.
This, he said, at the end of the day, would enable the party to have a very strong local council in the state.
“With the supreme court ruling, we have brought only graduates, people that are competent to manage local governments and we are ready to give local government autonomy and we are doing it already.
“We have to work together to bring good governance.
“We don’t deceive the youth, we respect the people and that is why in the midst of the protest, we came to show you that Bauchi is different.
“The protest has shown us so many things and lessons to be learned and we in Bauchi are ready to change because change is the only thing that is constant. We have to change our ways to address the problems of these youth,” he said.
He also called for the stoppage of the protest so as not to destroy the country, adding that Nigeria is a country that every black nation is looking up to.
