Hijrah: Kwara Gov Preaches Peace, Compassion

The Governor of Kwara State, Malam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Sunday, called on Nigerians, particularly Muslims, to embody the teachings of Hijrah, the migration of Prophet Muhammad from Makkah to Medina, in their daily lives.

During the 2024 Hijrah celebration (1446AH) organized by the Hijrah Islamic Organisation in Ilorin, the state capital, Governor AbdulRazaq, represented by his senior adviser, Alhaji Saadu Salahu, encouraged Muslims to reflect the lessons of Hijrah in their interactions with both Muslims and non-Muslims.

He urged them to take the opportunity to visit the sick, support family members in distress, and demonstrate kindness to one another.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to listening to the public and adjusting policies to meet their needs.

He acknowledged that while some government decisions might seem tough, they are made in the best interest of society.

Gov. AbdulRazaq also appealed to Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration in delivering on its renewed hope agenda.

He announced that Monday would be a work-free day in Kwara State to commemorate Hijrah, recognizing the importance of spiritual growth and happiness.

In his sermon, Sheikh AbdulMumin Ayara, the national missioner of the Ansarul Islam Society of Nigeria, criticized the arbitrary increase in food prices and other commodities by traders under the pretext of inflation and exchange rates.

He urged traders to fear Allah and warned that they would be held accountable for their actions in the hereafter.

Sheikh Habeebulahi El-Ilorin, representing Mudirul Markaz, supported Ayara’s views.

Earlier, the chairman of the Hijrah Islamic Organisation, Professor Badmas Yusuf, called on the government to encourage foreign investment and implement policies focused on diversifying the economy.
