The Kwara State Government has reiterated its commitment to the prioritisation of workers’ welfare.

The Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, Bola Ojukoju stated this on Monday during her visit to the corporate head office of The Herald Newspapers in Ilorin to assess the level of damages caused by last weekend’s rain storm.

The Commissioner, while commending the management of The Herald for the proactiveness in managing the unfortunate situation, also sympathized with the management and staff of the organization over the incident.

Olukoju described the incident as a natural disaster for which nobody or leadership should be blamed. “Rain storm is a natural disaster which can occur at any time and anywhere including newly constructed buildings.

“The good thing is that we have seen the level of the damage and it’s not so bad and we are happy with steps taken by the management to avert a shutdown.”

While promising that urgent attention will be paid by the government to ensure that the effect is sorted out, she explained that “It’s a natural disaster, it can happen any time and any where even to new buildings. It’s not about the structure but we as a government will continue to do our best to protect our staff and facilities.”

She also commended the workers for ensuring that production took place at the weekend despite the storm.

“It is good to know that despite what has happened in this place, newspaper production still took place, so I want to salute the courage and passion of the management and staff.

“We will continue to support them to have a very conducive place for their job. We want everybody to be happy at work and your welfare is also very important to us,” she stated.

Earlier, the General Manager of The Herald Newspapers, Yomi Adeboye while receiving the Commissioner and her team thanked her for her support, concern and care for the management and workers of the organization.

While leading the Commissioner to the area that was affected by the rain storm, the General Manager assured that the management and staff will continue to be diligent and committed to their duties.

He expressed gratitude to the Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for their constant support for the corporation, its Management and staff.
