Natasha Akpoti Becomes 4th Female Senator in 10th NASS, Takes Oath of Office

Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, on Thursday, directed the clerk of the senate to administer the oath on  Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the senator representing Kogi Central senatorial district.

This followed her presentation with the Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the duly elected Senator for Kogi Central.

Natasha is now the first female Senator from Kogi State and the fourth female Senator in the 10th Upper Legislative Chamber

The election petition tribunal had on September 6, affirmed Natasha as the duly elected Senator as it nullified Ohere’s victory citing inflated polling results in favor of Ohere in some units and deliberate undercounting against Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Earlier, the court had dismissed the appeal filed by  Ohere of the All Progressives Congress for lacking in merit and returned Akpoti-Uduaghan as duly elected.

The state Election Petitions Tribunal, in September, had declared Akpoti-Uduaghan winner of the Kogi Central Senatorial election, PUNCH reports.  It also invalidated the victory of Ohere.

The tribunal chairman, Justice K. A. Orjiako, delivered the unanimous judgment of the three-person panel, revealing that Ohere’s results were inflated in nine polling units in the Ajaokuta Local Government Area.
