DG MINILS, Issa Aremu Cautions Nigerians Over Interim Govt
The Director General Michael Imodu National Institute for labour Studies (MINILS) Ilorin Centre, Comrade Issa Aremu has called on those canvassing for an interim government aftermath of the general elections in the country to perish the thought as it is illegal, undemocratic and unacceptable.
Comrade Issa Aremu made the call while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin on the sideline of the Ramadan iftar lecture in Ilorin on Sunday
It would be recalled that the Department of State Services (DSS) reportedly uncovered plans by some unnamed key players canvassing for an interim government after the the just concluded 2023 general elections which produced Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress as the President-elect.
Comrade Aremu a labour leader said “I don’t think any serious Nigerians voters want to return to an idea that is already discredited is outdated and it is out of fashion, it has been declared illegal is an abberation to the entire democratic process.
“Those who are mutting this idea should perish the thought, they should organise and not to agonise and the way to organise will be if you are aggrieved seek redress with the tribunal and if you are happy with the outcome we should all work towards inauguration May 29, 2023.
” Even after May 29 we should work towards good governance because elections is just the means the end is good governance is not over until we combine political democracy with economic democracy and economic democracy can only come when we uplift our people out of poverty, millions are still living in poverty which mean vote has not translated to prosperity for majority of our people is undemocratic is unacceptable” he said
“let me use this forum to commend the Department of State Security Services DSS for being vigilant to unconver and make it public all of us should rise and defend this democratic processes that is forward ever backward never” he added.
Aremu who also commended the turn out of voters in the 2023 general elections said, “Let me use this opportunity to commend the millions of registered voters who came out to exercise their democratic right during the February 25 presidential election as well as the Merch 18 gubernatorial elections
“It is now clear that Nigerians are now committed to democratic process inspite of the economic challenges in the country they still came out in large number regardless of the challenges
“We should all work toward the inauguration. For those who are aggrieved we have processes for seeking redress and I want to commend all the key actors who have taken advantage of the election tribunal petition that is the way to go in Democracy we count on judiciary to do justice to all the cases.” He added.
“I want to commend the political party they put up a good fight.
The President elect-Bola Tinubu has already extend the hand of fellowship for all to come on board.
We should key into the renew hope vision of the president elect Bola Ahmed Asiwaju Tinubu the same thing at the state levels all of us are winning no looser” he said.
