Tuchel’s payout from Boehly vs every Chelsea manager’s fee under Abramovich

The sacked Thomas Tuchel will reportedly receive a cool £15m payout package after being given his marching orders at Chelsea, bringing the club’s total spent on sacked managers since 2003 to £127m

And so the Chelsea managerial merry-go-round continues.

By the looks of things, Roman Abramovich might have some competition in the ruthless owners department. Thomas Tuchel was sent packing just 100 days into Todd Boehly’s reign, and just over a year after guiding the Blues to a miraculous Champions League triumph.

But after spending £270million in the summer window, Boehly expected results, or at the very least strong performances, the latter of which Tuchel’s side have been seriously struggling to produce in the past year.

Though it’s not all doom and gloom for the former PSG and Dortmund head coach. He’s been reportedly handed a handsome £15m payoff for his troubles, but how does that stack up to the payoffs the other (*checks notes*) 11 sacked managers during the Abramovich era received?

Well, Jose Mourinho – who was booted out of Chelsea twice let’s not forget – has unsurprisingly raked in the most. The Special One received an eye-watering £23.1m when he left in 2007, and £8.3m after getting fired in 2015, bringing his combined total to £31.4m.

Antonio Conte was handed the biggest one-off payment, with a whopping £26.6m coming his way when he was sacked in 2018.

Tuchel’s predecessor Frank Lampard received a paltry £2m, while Carlo Ancelotti bagged £6m after being infamously sacked in the tunnel at Goodison Park immediately after Chelsea’s last match of the season. Classy. (Check out the full list below).
