Prof. Noah Yusuf, Vice-Chancellor’s Address at the Official Commissioning of Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari Hostel, Igbaja Campus

As-salam Alaikum Waramatulahi Wabarakatuhu,

I feel very humbled and highly honoured by the presence of their Excellencies- Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, CFR, the Executive Governor of Katsina State and Matawallen Hausa, Dallatun Katsina, Sarkin Sudan, Shettima Alama and Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Executive Governor of Kwara State, both of who are our Guest of Honour and Host Governor respectively. I similarly appreciate their entourage. I rejoice with the Founder and Chairman Board of Trustees, Alh. Chief (Dr.) Abdulraheem Oladimeji, OFR, FNAEAP, fSPSP and the Pro- Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of our Great University, Allhaja Sekinat O. Yusuf on today’s great occasion.

The presence of our Royal fathers and Igbaja Community also attests to the importance of this occasion.

The choice of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, CFR, as the Guest of Honour is not by accident. The Management has over the years been impressed by the outstanding performance of His Excellency in the governance of Katsina State. His “Restoration Agenda”, particularly in the education sector (School Improvement Grant through the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project and other sections- mainly Agriculture(Interna- tonal Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), health, water and infrastructural development are noble, notable and memorable landmarks in the terrains of Katsina State.

His Excellency has emphatically stated that the main economic stay of Katsina had always been Agriculture. This is therefore the reason for the construction of this hostel for students in the Faculty of Agriculture. In one way or the other, His Excellency has unconsciously assisted the University to kickstart the provision of a necessary and relevant student-support service in Igbaja campus.

It may interest Your Excellencies and our distinguished Guests to note that the University does not charge any tuition fees for Agricultural programme from 100-300 Levels. This is to motivate, encourage and demonstrate our support for students who are ready to become farmers and contribute to the drive towards food security in our dear country, Nigeria.

It may also interest Your Excellencies to note that over the years, the average number of Katsina State private students (212) are the second highest from the 19 Northern States in Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin. Currently, there are 96, across seven Faculties and majority of them are in Agriculture, Cyber security, Software Engineering,Computer Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, Public Health and Geology Departments.

It is our hope that the Katsina State government would as from 2022/2023 academic session, commence sponsorship of indigenes of the state on scholarship as a further boost to the laudable educational transformation agenda of His Excellency, Governor Aminu Bello Masari administration.

Distinguished Guests, join us to appreciate the Guest of Honour, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, CFR, who has demonstrated true qualities of a leader by accepting our request to name the project after him and equally accepted to be personally present during the commissioning.

This is a great demonstration of your genuine interest in Al-Hikmah University. Your Excellency Sir, we are very grateful. By the Special Grace of Almighty Allah, Your Excellency, on your return to our beloved Katsina State, you will meet it in relative peace, better and safer than you left it. Amin.

Let me seize this unique opportunity to express profound appreciation to our dynamic Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council of our Great University, Alhaja Sekinat O. Yusuf, as well as other distinguished Council members for their solid support and confidence which culminated to the completion of this project including other completed and ongoing projects in the University. The Management is committed to transparent, accountable and efficient delivery of the manadate given to us to pilot the affairs of the University.

On behalf of the Founder of our Great University, Alh. Chief (Dr.) Abdulraheem Oladimeji, OFR, Asiwaju/Jagunmolu of Igbomina land, Arogundade of Lagos and Baba Oba of Offa, I humbly appreciate all our invited Royal Fathers and other guests for your presence at this landmark occasion.

Finally, on behalf of His Excellency, the Host Governor, the Founder/Chairman, Board of Trustees, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council and the Royal Fathers, I heartily welcome the Special Guest of Honour, His Excellency, Rt. Aminu Bello Masari, CFR, the Executive Governor of Katsina State and Matawallen of Hausa, Dallatun of Katsina, Sarkin Sudan, Shettima Alama to Al-Hikmah University – the first Islamic faith-based University in Nigeria.
