By Taiwo Ogunniyi
More than 18 corps members have been sanctioned with a repeat of the compulsory service year by the National Youth Service Corps,(NYSC) in Ekiti.

The Ekiti Coordinator of the NYSC scheme, Mrs Mary Chikezie, made the disclosure on Thursday during the Passing-Out Parade of the 2021 Batch B corps members at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, Ado-Ekiti.

Chikezie said 11 of erred corps members would repeat outrightly the service as a result of abscondment, while seven have been given months of extension.

This is just as six, including two medical doctors, corps members have been rewarded for their outstanding performances at touching positively the lives of their host communities.

Those honoured were, Tom Udoudo, Racheal Bob-Yellowe (doctor), Joachim Kolawole, David Onaolapo,(Doctor), Goodness Stephen and Annuoluwa Balogun.

“It gladdens my heart to inform everyone here that out of the 1,416 corps members, some were able to go extra miles to single themselves out through individual contributions to their host communities in Ekiti.

“On the whole, six corps members who excelled in the execution of viable Community Development Projects have been found worthy and awarded the Prestigious State Honours Awards and one for State Coordinator’s Award,” Chikezie said.

The NYSC state coordinator, however, said in every set of disciples, there is always a Judas, explaining that seven corps members have been found wanting and have been sanctioned with extension of their service year.

She further said, 11 corps members will be remobilised for outright abscondment.

She, therefore, thanked Gov. Kayode Fayemi-led administration for its supports to NYSC scheme in the state.

In his speech, Ekiti Governor, Kayode Fayemi, called on the Nigerian youths, especially the corps members to ensure they do anything that will restore the unity and peace of the Country.

Fayemi, who was represented by his Deputy, Chief Bisi Egbemi, lauded the contributions of NYSC scheme to development of the state in the area of education and other aspects.

He commended the contributions of the NYSC scheme to success of the just concluded gubernatorial election in the state, which he described as the internationally adjudged free and fair election by observers.

Speaking in an interview, one of the State Honours Awardee, Rachel Bob-Yellowe said the zeal to purchase a Phototherapy Machine for new babies at her primary place of assignment was borne out of her desire to bring succour to mothers and babiies in the community.

“I was the first corps members, a medical doctor posted to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti annex facility at Adebayo Area of Ado-Ekiti.

“I discovered that this machine is not readily available at the facility and most times we have to refer new born baby, who suffers Jundice to other facilities.

“So, I took upon myself to bring succour to these mothers and babies by providing this Phototherapy Machine among other equipment,” she said.
