Kwara NSCDC Intercepts Benin Republic Bound 137Kegs of Petrol

The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intercepted 137 kegs loaded with premium motor spirit popularly know as petro as they were trying to smuggle the products out of the country through Nigeria-Benin Republic boarder in Baruten Local government area of Kwara State.

According to the spokesman of the NSCDC in the State Babawale Zaid Afolabi, the crack and tactical Anti-Vandal team of the corps led by the head of the unit, ACC. Ayinde Olatunde Yusuf, acted on an Intelligence information and a tip off rounded up the three suspects on their way to Benin Republic with the petroleum products loaded inside 137 kegs.

The three suspects arrested are Jimoh Serifdeen 19, Abdul Majid Saminu, 20 and Usman Muhammed 18.

Other suspected accomplices ran away on sighting the NSCDC patrol team and manhunt has begun in order to pick them up.

” In compliance with the direction and given by the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Abubakar Ahmed Audi, to reduce act of diversion and vandalism of the country’s critical infrastructure and assets, the Anti Vandal Unit of the Corps led by ACC Ayinde Olatubde Yusuf acted on a tip off intercepted premium motor spirit known as petrol that was load inside 137 kegs and were about to be smuggled out of the country through Nigeria-Benin Republic-boarder in Baruten local government area of Kwara State”. Babawale disclosed

He explained further that the petroleum products was loaded from one Wasmak filling station in Kaima, the headquarters of Baruten local government area of the State, adding that the filling station has been sealed up by the NSCDC.

The head of the Anti Vandal Unit Ayinde Olatubde Yusuf, who also led the operation used the opportunity to read riot act to Vandal and other economic saboteurs in the State to desist from the act as the NSCDC and other security agencies are all out to make life difficult for the criminals.

As manhunt continues to arrest other members of the gang, the Kwara State Commandant of the NSCDC Iskilu Ayinla Makinde has ordered that the suspects be charged to court after the completion of the investigations
